What is a Mother?
She is a provider, teacher, director, manager, referee, judge and jury. She can produce a baby, a paycheck, food, and teach us right from wrong. She directs us to be responsible, caring people, and manages homework, chores and activities. She can referee the best fighting match, judge fault and provide discipline.
She is caring, loving, nurturing, available. She cares for us when we’re young, when we hate her, and when we call at 30 for advice. She is loving, even when she doesn’t want to, or when we don’t deserve it. She provides comfort in her arms when we’re hurting, had a bad dream, or when we’re sick. She is always available.
She is stressed, overweight, angry, anxious and mean. Yes, we have to go there, too. When she has too much on her plate, she is short with her words. When she has body issues, she is feeling unloved and may isolate herself. When she has been hurt and is angry, she yells and says things she doesn’t mean. When she’s worried about finances, if her children will be ok, or anxious about her future, she is crying and withdrawn.
When she is gone, she is missed, mourned and remembered fondly. We hang on to the wonderful memories and draw from everything she poured into us. We share her teachings with our children and mentor others the way she mentored us.
She is all of those things. And yet, she prevails!
She sets herself apart from the “I can’t” and the “I give up” and holds on to the truth of who she is – a precious daughter of God. She pulls from the love of Christ and knows she must keep going.
She is more precious than rubies and pearls!
Happy Mother’s Day my Warrior Mom!
