We are taking a journey this month down some dark, hidden, scary back roads. This isn’t a trip we like to take, but if we don’t, the results end in a horrific, chaotic life!
Last week we explored Motives – this week, Fears!
We tend to think of Fear in terms of horror or terror – Halloween style! But Fear can also be apprehension and dread. “What will others say if I quit my job to pursue my purpose?” “I don’t know where to begin,” or “I can’t do it; it’s way too hard.” These thoughts keep us from changing or moving forward, especially if our Fear feels out-of-control or unmanageable.
Other descriptions can be fear of abandonment or rejection, so we don’t love with our whole heart; fear of being found out, so we continue the lie; fear of ridicule or criticism, so we aren’t vulnerable; fear of getting old, so we spend a lot of time and money to be presentable to others. Physical fears can be accidents, falling, murdered, cancer, chemical warfare, flying, flood, tornado, snakes, spiders.
If we let our Fear of a Fear render us incapable of living, stifle our progress, or keep us from a decision or serving our purpose, we are not available to God’s call. Naming the Fear, acknowledging why you are scared, and surrendering it releases you from the clutches of its dark grip on your life.
Are you ready to surrender your Fears?
