My last blog was about the emotions we feel with a big life event. My daughter, Health Nut, is now one week late from her baby’s due date. She and I discovered something about ourselves – we don’t like “limbo land!” We are planners and schedulers. Neither of us scheduled any personal or work appointments this week, canceled all engagements, classes and meetings, let friends and relatives know we would not be attending any functions, bags have been packed for two weeks, a neighbor is ready to care for our plants while we’re away, the fish is with a co-worker being fed. We are sitting here with nothing to do! And it’s driving us crazy!
When we are out of our comfort zone, why is it so hard to relax?
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” Mark 6:31
Health Nut bought a movie pass, takes walks at a park, enjoys a drink while sitting in a coffee shop, and volunteers at the Red Cross. She’ll be busy soon enough when life’s craziness returns with a newborn baby!
How will you take a break and relax today?
