My Soul Sisters visited for a Weekend Retreat and we enjoyed laughter, activities on the lake, a few tears (yes, we enjoyed them), fellowshipping, and a close bond!
One common thread amongst us was fear. We did some coaching exercises to turn our “I can’ts” into “I CAN”!
My Soul Sister Lindsey explained, “We revisited the areas in my life that continue to plague my confidence and freedom in my walk with the Lord. My favorite part was writing our burdens on rocks, strapping them to our backs, and feeling the physical weight we needlessly carry every day! We then chose which rocks to chuck and entrust to Jesus. Some rocks are strategically placed at home and work, where each hang-up tends to come up. They’ve been good reminders.” Lindsey is saying I CAN to moving forward and stop looking back. Because of her obedience, within days of returning home a new job opportunity opened for her!
Michala surrendered her burdens into the deep waters of the lake…except for one. Perfectionist! Our newly married sister was horrified to realize when she re-stacks the dishes after her newlywed puts them away, she could be telling him he isn’t good enough. She did not want to convey that message to someone she loves dearly. She placed that rock in a prominent area of her home to see every day. And she told her husband about it. She said I CAN stop needing to control everything in my life and enjoy a deeper, contented relationship.
Sarah said, “the only rock I chucked was ‘insecurity’ because it is attached to the things I struggle with – loneliness, saying I Can’t, depression, I’m ugly, afraid to disappoint someone. My fear is exposing myself. Our theme song for the weekend was ‘Fear, he is a liar’ meaning it’s Satan that says you aren’t good enough. I CAN do anything with Christ who strengthens me because I am His and beautifully woven!” Sarah went home, gave notice to her full time job and is rebooting her pet sitting business.
