The family unit is under attack. Have any of these issues happened to you: Divorce, Single Parenting, Absent Father, Communication problems, Unresolved Baggage in relationships?
USA Today ran an article from 24/7 Wall St. on January 29, 2018, listing The Divorce Capital of Every State. I live in a small town, Grove, Oklahoma, population of 6,835. It is listed as the highest divorced population in the state at 19.1%, with a statewide divorced population of 13.3%.
Why are broken marriages tearing our families apart?
In the 1950’s and 60’s, divorce was legally allowed for reason of adultery. In 1967, other reasons were added to the law – cruelty, desertion, and two years of separation. Most of these are understandable, although, can be repaired, when you’re willing to acknowledge your actions and change. Today, due to the no-guilt “irreconcilable differences” legal option for divorce, we don’t need a reason. And with instant gratification these days, our reason is often because we are unhappy.
I am from a broken home, married a divorced father, and came within 2 inches of breaking my home after 20 years of marriage. Because I was unhappy. Through counseling, what I really suffered from was past hurt that I worked very hard on healing. That allowed me to renew my focus on the family and our marriage. I am more committed to my husband today than I was on our wedding day.
